Worldly and Wise:
Solo Travel for Women

What do you do when you're 15,000 miles from home and a stranger offers you a lift, invites you home, or suggests a stroll... into a remote jungle? Some of the most memorable travel experiences stem from taking chances, trusting strangers, and trusting your instincts while on the road, yet traveling as a woman alone can prove a challenging and, at times, frightening experience. Using stories and slides, this veteran female traveler, who's journeyed alone to more than 45 countries in the past 18 years (in Europe, Africa, Asia and the South Pacific) will share tips on traveling solo and navigating potentially tricky situations as you do. She'll discuss safety issues, choosing accommodations and transportation, and getting beneath the surface of a culture without compromising your safety.

What's Up Down Under:
Adventure Travel in Australia and New Zealand

Good planning will help maximize your time in the lands down under. Through stories, slides and handouts, discover the world's outdoor adventure capital, New Zealand, where backpacks outnumber business suits and bungee jumping has its roots. Learn about New Zealand's north and south islands, where you can explore fiords, glaciers, beaches, backcountry, main cities and historic towns, and stay with local families. Then discover Australia, from the remote northwest to the Red Center and Tasmania to the Great Barrier Reef. Find out about rainforest hikes, mail runs, city sights, scuba trips, and 4WD tours (including one on the world's largest sand island). Kari spent nine months in New Zealand and Australia and shares her tips, tales and ideas on planning a trip, getting around, and must-do tours and offbeat excursions.
